Jenő Rejtő (1905-1943) wrote fast-paced adventure novels under the pen name P. Howard. His novel «Piszkos Fred, a kapitány» (’Dirty Fred, the Captain,’ 1940) follows a down-and-out ex-captain who traded his uniform for rags, yet, according to his companion Fülig Jimmy, ’has more brains than anyone else in the world.’ Kolodko installed his miniature as a Christmas gift in 2025 on the Danube promenade near the Chain Bridge, Fred lies half-reclined in his travel trunk, pipe in the corner of his mouth.

Rejtő's own life was just as adventurous as his novels: he earned his living at various times as a boxer, a herring fisherman on a trawler, and a construction worker, before becoming a celebrated writer under the pen name P. Howard. He died in 1943 at the age of 37 – a bitter contrast to the joie de vivre of his fictional characters.
