MICRO BUDAPEST is live!

Budapest is full of tiny mostly bronze residents -- a recovered rabbit here, Pinocchio hanging around there, a meerkat keeping watch over a hospital corner. Today they all get their own home online. 40 micro statues by Mihály Kolodko, each with its address, GPS position and story, in seven languages. Grab your phone, install the app, and go hunting: every statue you find is a small victory. Found a new statue we have not listed yet, or one that has vanished or been moved? Tell us -- this page is where we will post it. Happy exploring!

Update: two more statues reported missing

Dracula / Bela Lugosi at Vajdahunyad Castle had already been reported stolen in the press earlier this year. Following an on-site visit in early September, we can now confirm two more pieces have disappeared as well: the little fox Vuk (Szent Gellért rakpart, near the Rudas Baths) and the Ushanka hat with frog legs on its return visit (Antall József rakpart, behind the Parliament, not far from a parking garage entrance). All three entries are now marked as missing on the map.

In August, Kolodko added two new figures to the fence of Bethesda Children's Hospital in the Zugló district: Dr. Bubó, the beloved owl doctor from the classic Hungarian cartoon «Kérem a következőt!», perched on the corner post with his stethoscope -- and, one step below him, the anxious rabbit from the same series, now shown recovered and relaxed. Both have been added to the map.

New statue marks the forint's 80th anniversary

Just ahead of August 1 -- the 80th anniversary of the forint replacing the hyperinflated pengő in 1946 -- Kolodko placed a new figure at Szabadság tér, right by the Hungarian National Bank: a worker in ear protection, leaf-blowing old pengő banknotes across the pavement. The scene references a famous 1946 photo series showing street cleaners sweeping away the worthless bills by the ton.
