Ernő Rubik invented his cube in 1974 in Budapest. As a professor of interior design, he created it to help his students grasp three-dimensional thinking — and unintentionally invented the best-selling puzzle toy in history (over 450 million units sold).

The bronze version sits on a sloped travertine surface, nearly the size of a real Rubik's Cube – and yet easy to miss if you're not specifically looking for it. Kolodko placed his miniature in February 2019 at an unusual spot: on the railing of the staircase leading from Bem rakpart down to the lower quay, at the level of Vám utca near Batthyány tér – mounted on a sloped surface rather than flat ground. One side of the cube is deliberately shown slightly twisted, as if it had just been set in motion and never quite solved. Anyone walking on from here will find two more Kolodko works within a few metres: the Worm and the Mini Tank.

AddressOn a sloped travertine surface at Bem-Ufer/Batthyány tér, not far from the Mini Tank.
